Every marketer claims to know how to use Google AdWords, but not every marketer can boast of being trained by Google itself. This is exactly what the Google AdWords certification is about; Google trains you to become an online marketing expert using AdWords tools.
Besides gaining knowledge on the topic, after successful completion of the exam, you will receive a Google AdWords certificate that demonstrates your online marketing expertise. Google AdWords certification is a must have for everyone who wants to improve his online marketing skills, as
- You don’t need to be part of a company to become certified
- You don’t need to have any on-the-job experience
- You don’t need to spend money running campaigns on AdWords
In order to become Google AdWords certified you need to pass two of the AdWords certification exams, the AdWords Fundamentals exam and one of the following: Search Advertising, Display Advertising, Mobile Advertising, Video Advertising or Shopping Advertising.
The Search Advertising exam is theoretically the easiest option as there is a huge overlap with the Fundamentals exam, while Video Advertising exam, for example, is quite different. However, the Search Advertising exam consists of 100 questions, where most of the other exams require you to answer only to 70 questions.
To pass each of the exams above you need to score 80% and you are given 120 minutes to complete the exam. Google provides online all the necessary study material.

Since Google allows you to retake the exam every 7 days and the exam is at no cost, I recommend you take the exam before even studying, so that you know what you will be tested on. Do not expect, however, to pass the exam with the first attempt, except if you are a Google AdWords genius. However, I am convinced that it will make studying much easier and less time-consuming.
Last but not least, remember that your Google AdWords certification is valid for 12 months. After that, you will need to retake and pass the Google AdWords exams.
Once you have successfully passed the Google AdWords exam, you will receive the AdWords Certification.
